Research summary
The study examines Cerbro-spinal fluid (CSF) collected in externalised systems (external ventricular drains (EVDs), externalised shunts or lumbar Drains) that are frequently used within Neurosurgery and will utilise non destructive methods including Visible, UV, infra red and raman spectroscopy to analyse the samples.
The samples will be taken only from clinically discarded specimens that are no longer required and analysed optically and then compared against biochemical markers to determine if this non invasive method could be used to provide bedside trend analysis for CSF infection.REC name
