Research summary
The aim of this research is to provide a basis from which an online resource could be created to be used by patients and carers following a diagnosis of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). The content of the potential resource will be decided by conducting interviews with adults with a diagnosis of OCD and their carers/family members, in order to determine which resources would be of most use and relevance to the target population. After exploring which resources are currently of most use to them, I will present a selection of resources I have sourced from portrayals of OCD in film, television and literature, as well as links to web pages and forums where those who need it can seek help and support. These will initially be determined from my literature review and analysis of resource variety, documentation and popularity for example hit counters on websites. Semi-structured interviews will focus on individual experiences of OCD, current resources used to help participants, and analysis and feedback of my suggested resources. This will be used to determine what would be of use to patients and carers both now, and at the time of their diagnoses. A thematic analysis of the interview transcripts will reveal the information needed to determine what content is suitable for inclusion into a web resource, after determining popularity and opinion.
