Data collection arrangements
Physiological data from patients undergoing a cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET) either prior to major non-cardiac surgery or for routine assessment as an adult congenital heart patient is collected. Data on blood results, CT scan measurements, length of hospital stay ,surgical information and mortality data is also collected. The data is stored and accessed securely from an NHS network and identifiable patient data is anonymised prior to investigating the outcomes.
Research programme
Data based on the performance of the CPET test will continue to be used to build risk models for predicting surgical risks for patients undergoing major noncardiac surgery, bone marrow transplant or future cardiology intervention. The information generated will continue to help inform patients and doctors who have to make difficult decisions regarding treatment choice and timing in the future.
