  • Data collection arrangements

Physiological data from patients undergoing a cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET) either prior to major abdominal surgery or for routine assessment as an adult congenital heart patient will be collected. Data on blood results, length of hospital stay , surgical information and mortality data will be collected. The data will be stored and accessed securely from an NHS network and identifiable patient data will be pseudoanonymised prior to investigating the outcomes.

  • Research programme

Data based on the performance of the CPET test will be used to build risk models for predicting surgical risks for patients undergoing major abdominal surgery, bone marrow transplant or future cardiology intervention. The information generated will help inform patients and doctors who have to make difficult decisions regarding treatment choice and timing in the future.
