Data collection arrangements
Patients undergoing resection for colorectal cancer will be approached to participate in the biobank. If they are in agreement, a designated consent form will be signed. Blood and serum will be taken from an already sited cannula once the patient is under general anaesthetic. Following extraction of the surgical specimen, small samples will be taken for research and transferred to an archiving facility within the trust. The surgical specimen will then be processed through the pathology department as per our current clinical practice.
Research programme
We have recently run a successful translational research project at the hospital in conjunction with the University of Liverpool. We have the support of a number of collaborators and have corresponded with our patients about the feasibility of establishing a local biobank.
