  • Research summary

This study aims to look at how effective the Orve+ Wrap warming blanket is compared to forced air warming blankets in patients who become hypothermic (<36°c) after surgery. Post-operative hypothermia is a relatively frequent occurence that can result in further complications and cause patient discomfort if not managed effectively.
The Orve+ Wrap is a new blanket available for warming patients but its clinical effectiveness has yet to be determined in the post operative period.
Patients planned to undergo a surgical procedure will be randomly selected to receive either the Orve+ Wrap blanket or a forced air warming blanket with their temperature recorded every 10 minutes. The difference between the temperature at 60 minutes will be our key outcome measure, along with patient satisfaction of the blankets.
