Research summary
Cerebral palsy (CP) is the most common cause of childhood disability. Orthopaedic surgery is a commonly used intervention that is used amongst the most ambulant children to improve walking. Surgeons frequently use objective outcomes to assess surgical success, however, patient-based outcomes are lacking. It is unclear if objective outcome assessments correlate well with patient-based outcomes. There is a growing nationwide desire amongst surgeons to improve the level of evidence within orthopaedic surgery, however before large-scale research is possible it is necessary to define an appropriate core outcome set.\n\nCurrently, there is no core outcome set developed specifically for ambulatory cerebral palsy post lower limb orthopaedic surgeries. so this research will help to address this gap through:\n\n1) Qualitative Evidence Synthesis: to explore the experience of cerebral palsy from the perspective of relevant stakeholders\n2) Scope Review: to map the available outcome measure and health issue they address.\n3) Interview: to explore the specific experience of lower limb surgery in a patient with cerebral palsy, and the development of core domains from the stakeholders perspective.\n4) Delphi study to identify core outcomes set.\n\nThis IRAS application covers the 3rd and 4th approaches only (i.e. the interview and the Delphi process).
