Research summary
This study aims to develop a Core Outcome Set (COS) for Type B Aortic Dissection (TBAD) using a structured, mixed-methods approach. The study will be conducted as part of a PhD research project at Imperial College London.
The study consists of five phases:
1. Retrospective Data Review:
A review of anonymised hospital records of patients treated for TBAD will be conducted to identify clinical outcomes that are currently recorded in routine care.
2. Systematic Literature Review:
A structured review of published studies on TBAD will identify which outcomes are commonly reported in the academic literature.
3. Focus Groups with Patients and Carers:
Qualitative focus groups will be conducted (either in person or online) with individuals who have experienced TBAD and/or their carers. These discussions will explore which outcomes matter most from a patient perspective.
4. Delphi Consensus Survey:
A modified Delphi process will be carried out over 2–3 online survey rounds with key stakeholders, including patients, carers, clinicians, and researchers. Participants will score the importance of different outcomes using a 9-point Likert scale. Results will be analysed to identify consensus.
5. Consensus Meeting:
A final consensus meeting will be held with representatives from all stakeholder groups to agree on the final set of core outcomes.
The study is non-interventional and does not involve clinical procedures. All data will be anonymised. Participants may take part in one or more phases, and no follow-up is required. Results will be disseminated in academic publications and submitted to the COMET Initiative database.REC name
