Research summary
The aim of the research is to determine the feasibility of collecting routine data measuring the quality of life experienced by patients with ear, nose and throat problems. While a number of questionnaires exist that address quality of life, they are rarely used routinely to measure clinical outcomes. This study will assess the effectiveness of inviting patients to complete a quality of life questionnaire before they attend outpatient clinics to give a baseline measurement, and then to complete the same questionnaire six months later in order to determine the effectiveness of any treatment. The patient will be invited to log on to a website that then presents them with a simple questionnaire to complete: they will then enter their email address and be sent the same questionnaire 6 months later. The main outcome measures will be:
1. How many patients respond to the request?
2. Are there any demographic or socio-economic factors such as home computer ownership that account for failure to complete the questionnaire?REC name
