Research summary
The research question aims to understand whether any positive life changes occurred, also known as posttraumatic growth, following the completion of their cancer treatment. We also want to understand some of the reasons why this positive change may, or may not, happen. It is recognised that the teenage and young adult cohort already experience a number of significant life changes during this period: relationships, exams, school completion, college, university, peer changes, starting a professional career.
Participants will be asked to complete questionnaires, which will be completed electronically online or in person on paper: a demographic questionnaire, treatment history, Post-traumatic Growth Inventory, Impact of Events Scale Revised, The Event Related Rumination Inventory. Consent will be gained for all participants aged 16-30 years, parental consent will be gained for participants aged 13-15 years, and an assent form will be used to ensure that the 13-15 also consent to participating in the study. Participants aged between 13-15, will only be allowed to complete paper versions of the questionnaires, and will be recruited in person, from clinics, due to the requirement for parental consent.
