  • Research summary

The study team have created a nature-based activity box to be used at home by children with ADHD and their families. It includes activity suggestions to support time in nature. The study is designed to find out if the nature-based activity box can be used in NHS neurodiversity services and whether it could be tested in a randomised controlled trial to determine whether it helps with ADHD symptoms and improves quality of life. The aim is to recruit 84 children with ADHD and their families to take part in the study. Half will receive their usual care which is usually medication, and the other half will be randomly allocated to receive the activity box in addition to usual care. Participants will be asked to complete some questionnaires at the beginning of the study and again after 6 weeks, which will ask information about the child's health and quality of life, ADHD symptoms, depression and anxiety symptoms, and experiences of interacting with nature. Those who receive the activity box will also be asked to give feedback on their experience of using the box. Participants will also be asked whether they might take part in an optional interview to find out what they think about the activity box and about the design of the study.
