Research summary
The Chief Investigator will be interviewing women with congenital heart disease who are currently or recently transitioning through the menopause. The aim of this research is to explore the impact of menopause in women with congenital heart diseases. This study has three objectives:
Objective 1: To explore the lived experience of women with CHD during their transition through menopause.
Objective 2: To identify the facilitators and barriers to accessing mental health support for CHD transitioning through menopause.
Objective 3: To explore psychological and social intervention for women with CHD who cannot use medication for mental health and menopause.
Previous research has focused on the reproductive health amongst women with congenital heart disease which has mainly focused on puberty and pregnancy with little to no research considering the impact of the menopause for this client group.
The study will be conducted within NHS hospitals which have adult congenital heart disease teams for example, St Bartholomew's.
The study will run until April 2026.REC name
