Research summary
This research project aims to explore the effectiveness of a computerised intervention as a treatment for patients with binge eating disorder and bulimia nervosa. The computerised intervention used will be an inhibitory control training, particularly, a food-specific go/no-go task. After consenting to take part in the research, 50% of the participants will be randomly allocated to the training condition, while the other 50% will carry on with treatment as usual, and only be asked to complete questionnaires at baseline (T0), post-intervention (T1; 4 weeks), and follow-up (T2; 8 weeks).
The full intervention will be 4 weeks long and consists of completing the computerized training and food diaries every day at any location that is convenient to the participant, as they will access the training using a mobile app called FoodT.
This research will aim to reduce automatic responding to food stimuli and examine whether improvements could be
applied to real world settings. This information would build steps for future larger-scale interventions and improve understanding of psychological mechanisms involved in dis-inhibited eating behaviour.REC name
