Research summary
The study will investigate clients' experiences of a specific intervention during a course of compassion-focused
therapy. The research will focus on clients with social anxiety in a primary care NHS setting. The intervention will be part of routine clinical practice and will involve creating a caring image to help people learn to be more caring towards themselves. Clients will also practice the caring imagery exercise at home for 1 week. The aim of the study is to learn from people receiving the intervention, people will be interviewed and asked questions. We aim to interview 8-10 people for up to one hour.
The interviews will be transcribed and analysed in order to understand their experiences. Interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) will be used for the analysis. IPA is a well established qualitative research method for exploring and understanding individual experience and meaning-making
What we learn from the study will be used to improve therapy and how we can help people with social anxiety using compassionREC name
