Research summary
As part of a review by the National Screening Committee of the benefit of Pulse oximetry screening to detect serious heart defects in newborn babies a pilot study was undertaken in 15 units in England examining the feasibility of introducing pulse oximetry screening in maternity units.
Public Health England would now like to undertake a health economic analysis of the introduction of such screening. In order to undertake this we would like to analyse Neonatal unit admission data from the participating trusts before and during screening and compare these with similar data from comparable units who did not perform screening.
