  • Research summary

MyDay® Sphere and MyDay® Toric have been shown to perform very well, however, for both contact lens types handling (e.g. opening the blister, putting contact lens in the eye and removing it) is sometimes reported to be more difficult than for than expected. Handling is an important parameter that influence acceptance of the contact lens by patients. It is therefore necessary to gain detailed understanding of handling performance to measure the severity of the problem and later consider how to resolve it. Many factors such as the properties of the material(e.g surface/lubricity, lens modulus, et.) the the shape contact lens( e.g. lens geometry) and packaging influence handling. For the two contact lenses to be tested the only applicable parameter is the lens geometry as the two are made from the same material and stored in the same packaging.

The rationale of this study is to characterise the handling performance of MyDay® Sphere and MyDay® Toric and measure the effect of lens design/geometry aspect on contact lens handling by comparing the two designs.
