Research summary
There are large numbers of patients waiting to be seen as part of their care for a musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions. This increases the likelihood of harm to these patients and places significant burden on health systems to provide equitable health services. This study will evaluate the potential of using remote movement analysis clinics to support clinicians monitor and triage patients on MSK waiting lists.
The study will recruit patients who are currently on the hip and knee replacement waiting list at Cambridge University Hospital.
The study will last 12-months. Participants will attend three movement analysis scans (movement scans). In these scans participants will have their movement measured using a motion capture system (similar to those used in Hollywood) and video. The scans will take place in a community hospital or community health centre setting.
Participants will be asked to provide feedback on their experience through a structured interview and questionnaire. In addition, the healthcare team managing the participants care will also be asked to give feedback on the information provided by the movement scan.
This research is a feasibility study designed to gain initial data and establish the feasibility of the research protocol. In addition it will gain participant feedback and providing direct a contribution to better designing a larger randomised control trial evaluating movement scanning services.REC name
