Research summary
This is a study which explores the significance of first-language choice within mental health services from the perspective of Welsh-speaking service users. It will identify which services are provided through the medium of Welsh, explore patterns and reasons for uptake of English or Welsh medium services and identify potential service gaps. The study will focus particularly on user's experiences of services in either language and their understanding of the potential significance of first-language choice in terms of issues including disclosure and trust. Qualitative data will be sought using semi-structured interviews. Following submission of the thesis, key findings will be summarized into a business report agreed with Simon Pyke, Mental Health and Learning Disabilities Clinical Programme Group, BCUHB.
