Research summary
Current fit testing practice is a time consuming and resource intensive practice. Multiple facemasks are tested by users and in some cases no mask is successfully fit-tested. This study is aimed at testing the success of the 3D contactless mask fit-testing system predicts the outcome of standard facemask fit-testing in real time based on facial geometry. The implication is the system can inform which, if any, facemasks in the available repertoire are likely to fit a user, eliminating the need for fit testing arbitrarily selected face masks. The hope is if this is shown to be effective, it provides the potential to significantly reduce fit testing time and costs, as well as identify users who are likely to fail all available facemasks and require alternative RPE.
