Research summary
Veterans of the UK Armed Forces who have previously experienced mental health difficulties will complete a pilot, veteran-only comedy improv and comedy stand up training course, with self-report measures of wellbeing, depression, anxiety, PTSD, social phobia and self esteem completed by participants before the courses, directly and then three months after the completion of the courses. Data from these measures will be analysed to determine if there has been a sustained increase in participants' self-reported wellbeing. Participants will also be interviewed about their personal experiences of the course. Transcripts of these interviews will be subject to Thematic Analysis to identify commonalities in participant experiences of the benefits and challenges involved in taking part in the course.
