Research summary
Experiencing fatigue (lack of energy, tiredness) is very common after stroke and mini-stroke (TIA). Fatigue makes it difficult for people to take part in everyday activities. Many people describe fatigue as the most difficult and upsetting problem caused by their stroke. We don’t know the best way to manage fatigue after stroke and many people don’t receive any information or support. We have developed an online self-management programme to help people better manage their fatigue after stroke. In this study we will test whether the fatigue programme is practical and acceptable. We will also look at whether the study design is convenient before completing a larger trial to test whether the programme helps to improve fatigue for stroke patients.
Patients may be able to take part in the study if they:
• Are aged 18 and over.
• Had a stroke or mini-stroke within the past 6 - 24 months.
• Are experiencing fatigue since their stroke or mini-stroke.
• Live in an area where the study is running.Everyone who takes part in the study will receive access to the online fatigue programme. Study participants will be asked to complete a questionnaire at the start of the study. They will then be asked to complete the online fatigue programme over 6 weeks and attend a 30-minute appointment with a healthcare provider after this. The appointment may be in person or via phone or video call. After 3 months, participants will be asked to complete a final questionnaire.
