Research summary
Signet ring cell carcinoma of the colon and rectum is rare and has a poor prognosis. This study aims to investigate whether there is a particular genotype associated with it which can be used to develop novel biomarkers and treatments. We have preliminary NGS, DNA methylation and gene expression data from a test cohort of 26 cases. We wish to increase this number to 44 for a higher impact publication and for this have idenitifed another 18 cases from the Grampian Repository. We need representative tumour and normal FFPE blocks to extract DNA, RNA and construct a TMA for downstream validation. After this the blocks would be returned back. All molecular and bioinformatics analyses will be conducted at the Northern Ireland Molecular Pathology Laboratory under the supervision of Prof Manuel Salto-Tellez.
