  • Data collection arrangements

Study data for the participants will be stored electronically and/or on paper and information on this will be filed in the Study Master File (SMF) at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.Relatives may be approached by the bereavement team, ward and department staff, and provided an interest in donation of tissue from the deceased is expressed, a member of the research team will be contacted by the bereavement team ward or department staff. The study will be discussed by the member of the research team, bereavement team and relatives, with written consent being invited. Discussion will include the range of tissues that may be collected and the purpose of that collection. If consent is given a copy of the signed document will be copied and retained by relatives, the Bereavement Centre, Pathology Department, and the member of the research team. The donor can withdraw their consent, without giving any reason, up to the time of that collection, by phoning the study contacts. Similarly, the donor can withdraw their consent for the continued retention and use of their relative's samples even after they have been collected, without giving a reason.Tissue harvesting will be scheduled in the mortuary and histopathology department. After an examination of the external anatomy, all tissue will be obtained through open dissection.
