Research summary
Cognition (the aspects of brain function that include attention, memory, judgement, evaluation and decision making) can be affected by a number of issues relating to a person's health. Depression (low mood), sleep problems, low oxygen levels in the blood, and general fatigue have all been shown to reduce cognition in people affected by these problems. Each of these issues is also known to be a common problem in sarcoidosis, a condition characterised by deposition of immune tissue around the body. We wish to investigate whether cognition is affected in patients with sarcoidosis and whether any factors (depression, fatigue, sleep, disease activity/severity) predict changes in cognition.
