Research summary
This study aims to identify key haemostatic changes which might impact on thrombosis and bleeding in patients undergoing hepatic resection for colorectal cancer metastases.
The study will be conducted in 3 stages:
1. Review of historical clinical & laboratory data on patients who have undergone hepatic resection for colorectal metastases and who have suffered thrombosis and/or excess bleeding +/- comparison with matched controls
2. Collection of samples from 10 patients with review of feasibility issues and identification of key haemostatic variables and appropriate timings to be assessed in the extended group
3. Collection of samples from a further 50 patients analysing key haemostatic variables plus sample storage for possible future review
Following completion of the study, clinical and laboratory variables will be correlated to establish key variables critical to understanding haemostatic variables in this patient group. Future work will explore the benefit of key alterations or interventions in the patient pathway that might reduce thrombosis and bleeding risks.REC name
