Research summary
Background
This multi-case study’s aim is to explore examples of ongoing co-production within integrated care focusing on the impact of co-production on the design and transformation of integrated health and care services. The context of this study is set in the time of formalisation of Integrated Care Systems (ICS) in England. These integrative system restructures will be required to include service users, carers and citizens to improve service design and transformation. This case study research will support organisations to work in co-production within current guidelines, progress existing plans, provide learning for others, and further the field into the impact of co-production within integrated care. Methods
The methodology of participatory action research will allow the researcher to partner with the participants as co-researchers, frame the research questions, methods and aims, learn together and provide an outcome of impact and education for the services and people involved. Over nine-months, three organisations will form separate study groups consisting of service leads, co-production project leads, service users, carers and members of staff, together with the researcher. Each service’s existing ongoing co-production activities, group meeting discussions and data collection will be continuously thematically analysed taking the principles of grounded theory, in collaboration with the co-researchers.Approach
Three cases, one from each of the Alliances within Suffolk and North East Essex ICS, will form a multi-case analysis, using the theory and knowledge built in each case to create comparisons, interpretations and produce overall findings representing the co-production within the integrated care system. The findings will become published in a peer-reviewed international journal and conference.REC name
