Research summary
The South Asian population has a higher risk of heart disease than other groups but they are less likely to attend or complete a programme of cardiac rehabilitation.
There are a number of reasons why this particular population does not engage with the programmes available. One major reason is that the way in which programmes are designed often conflicts with their cultural beliefs.
We wish to develop a new model of cardiac rehabilitation that is based on the needs and wishes of South Asian patients and their families. We will do this using an innovative research method called the ‘living lab’. This involves recruiting patients, families, clinicians and technology experts, who through an action research approach, will co-design a programme that both meets the needs of users and is feasible to provide
