Research summary
The Cancer Medicines Outcomes Programme (CMOP) is a 3-year collaborative programme funded by the Scottish Government to examine the clinical use and safety of cancer medicines in the real world. A summary of the full research programme can be found attached as PAPER A.
This study aims to develop a process to collect patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) as an indicator of the real-life impact of cancer medicines on Quality of Life (QoL). At present this data is not routinely captured in clinical practice. The intention will be to examine how best to choose a recognised measure of QoL (i.e. PROMs questionnaire(s) or tool(s)) for use in clinical practice to improve the collection and analysis of PROMs. This will enhance patient-clinician communication, improve clinical decision-making, and enable patients to live as healthy and as long a life as possible.
We will use an eDelphi (with clinicians working in the area of prostate cancer) and a Nominal Group Technique (NGT) workshop with patients / carers who have experience of a prostate cancer diagnosis to identify appropriate PROMS questionnaire(s) or tool(s) for use in routine care. Follow-up telephone interviews will also be utilised with some clinicians.
