Research summary
Patients with alcohol related liver disease (ArLD) are a heterogeneous group with complexities that are not only limited to their health, but also their psychosocial backgrounds. The gaps in understanding the limitations to retention and engagement in turn impact the health inequalities patients are subject to. Access to clinical trials should be made available to all patients, including those with ArLD. If the barriers are understood and overcome, this can reduce health inequalities and improve treatment. Those that would benefit from improving engagement and retention strategies include patients, research nurses, those involved in clinical trials, scientists, and chief investigators.
