Research summary
Many different aspects of a woman's physical and mental health, and social situation can affect how things go for her during pregnancy, childbirth, and after having a baby.
A medical software (called MpRisk) has been developed to assess the factors in a woman’s health and social situation that increase the chance of problems that might occur during pregnancy and after the pregnancy has concluded. In this research study, we will assess the effectiveness of this device in clinical settings to determine whether it improves pregnancy care for woman who are most at risk.
We will investigate the impact of delivering a new pathway for triaging and caring for patients during their maternity journey assisted by MpRisk at regional GP surgeries and compare the results to a control arm which will offer the same level of care that is currently provided.
By flagging-up risk in the pre-booking phase, those that could end up with a poor maternity outcome will be seen by the appropriate healthcare professional to enhance the care and interventions they receive during early pregnancy. Earlier intervention has the potential to address or even prevent complications during and after pregnancy, thereby potentially reducing overall risk.
