Research summary
This study is a clinical registry of patients attending for clinically indicated cardiac MRI scans. The purpose of the study is to create a database of participants undergoing MRI scans with a wide variety of cardiovascular conditions so that this information can be used to perform clinically useful research and to validate new MRI sequences.
During routine clinical cardiac MRI scans a large number of images and image data is acquired, which aims to answer the clinical questions that referring doctors are asking. Because of the diverse range of clinical conditions that require MRI scans, much of the data that is collected for clinical purposes can be analysed at a later date to produce useful research about both the nature of cardiovascular diseases and the usefulness of MRI scanning. Secondly, MRI is a constantly changing field whereby new sequences are frequently developed and require validation against current sequences or other clinical tests.
We plan to invite all patients attending for clinically indicated cardiac MRI scans to participate in this study. Patients will be asked for permission to use their anonymised images and clinical data for future research purposes as well as permission to acquire an extra 5-10 minutes of image acquisition for the purpose of optimising and/or validating sequences for future use.
We anticipate that the data acquired in this study will allow for significant advances in the field of cardiac MRI both in terms of image acquisition and protocols, and in the understanding of cardiovascular diseases.
