Research summary
The Cleveland Clinic London BioResource (CCLB) objective is to establish a database of patients which will be used for clinical health and disease-related research opportunities. Research opportunities are envisaged to translate into improving any aspect(s) of health care.
The development of CCL presents a massive opportunity for UK research and education to add a further player to its list of top-class academic medical institutions. CCL will NOT just be a private hospital in the West End of London. Rather it will adhere to exactly the same principles that have been the cornerstone of development of CC over the last century in the USA. On this basis, CCL has already taken significant steps towards embedding education and research from the very start – examples include:
• Agreements under development to host undergraduate medical students from Barts & the London School of Medicine and Dentistry (QMUL)
• Agreement with University College London Queens Square Institute of Neurology to host Neuroscience Fellowships
• Plans for UK and international training fellowships (including exchange programs with USA)
• Development of an educational program for London region surgical trainees in several specialties to augment that provided by the Deaneries
• Development of a United Kingdom edition of the Journal Cleveland Clinic Journal of Medicine: www.ccjm.org.In this application we seek approval for foundations of a ‘Cleveland Clinic London BioResource that will serve as the enabling research governance for CCL to conduct prospective high quality clinical research in house using patient data but also to streamline collaborations with the above and other U.K. HEIs and NHS hospitals.
