Research summary
The purpose of this research study is to characterise which specific layers of the cerebral cortex are affected in adults who carry the mutated Huntington’s disease (HD) gene, many years before they develop symptoms of the disease.
I will also investigate the how these anatomical differences in brain layers affect layer specific brain function. This will help guide the optimum time for therapeutic intervention in HD prior to the onset of irreversible brain changes.
I will use 7 Tesla MRI to investigate the structure of specific layers of the brain. Magnetoencephalography (MEG), which measures electrical activity of the brain, will be used to look at the function of these brain layers.
