Research summary
This is a multi-site study where each site is aiming to recruit 250 healthy volunteers between ages of 18 and 49 years to a registry. The volunteers will be asked to give information about medical history, medications and vaccinations, and to provide a blood sample. They will be asked to return for follow-up visits twice a year for up to 7 years. During this time, they may be asked to consider entering a virus challenge study (i.e. deliberate infection with virus in a controlled setting) or vaccine study for influenza, SARS-CoV-2 or other respiratory infections. Up to 50 participants per year can be replaced if volunteers are enrolled into studies or if they decide to withdraw, so the registry will have a maximum number of 550 participants enrolled per site over the 7 years. Participants who agree to take part in the registry are not agreeing to be in any specific research studies, and are free to decline and still remain in the registry. The testing of healthy individuals across multiple years will serve to understand the existing or changing influenza and SARS-CoV-2 immunity in the recruited population.
