Research summary
Peripheral neuropathy is a term referring to a group of conditions resulting in damage to the peripheral nerves (nerves that supply muscle and skin). It can be caused by a number of different diseases (eg diabetes, vitamin deficiency, sensitivity to gluten) but sometimes a cause cannot be identified despite extensive investigations. Chronic idiopathic axonal polyneuropathy (CIAP) refers to this group of patients in which this project will concentrate. We will attempt to find out the natural history of CIAP by assessing any progression (or sometimes improvement) of the neuropathy over time.
