  • Research summary

Current practice of delivering preterm infants (23-37 weeks gestation)and their care has made enormous advances in recent years. There is still room for improvement. Like other organs, the skin of these neonates is not fully developed and is noted to have limitations in its function as a natural barrier to injury and disease. The present study will evaluate the functional development of the skin in preterm infants and to promote best practice for skin assessment and management. Term infant skin will also be assessed to provide reference data for comparison.
