Research summary
Having high blood sugar can cause damage to small and large blood vessels. This can lead to complications over time. We know that warming healthy people up using water has been shown to lower sugar levels. We also know that heating the body may reduce blood glucose in a similar way that exercise can. However, we do not know if this happens in people with type 2 diabetes. Therefore, we want to see if heating the body can reduce blood sugar levels after having some sugar. This study will also help us inform the design of a larger and longer term studies in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
