Research summary
Children and young people's healthcare experiences (CYPHCEs) are a measure of healthcare quality yet little is known about these experiences from the perspective of children and young people themselves. Scoping review methodology was used to explore CYPHCEs from their perspective. The 6th step in scoping review methodology is a consultation exercise. This study aims to complete a consultation exercise in the form of a focus group with children and young people (CYP); to explore how healthcare professionals can learn from these experiences and allow CYP to suggest changes for future practice.
This study will recruit eight to ten CYP into 2 separate focus groups (total 16-20 participants), each lasting 1-2 hours. The researcher (Gail Davison, GD) will discuss preliminary findings from the scoping literature review. Audio-recordings will be made and notes will be taken. The data will be analysed using qualitative analysis methodology on NVivo software.
