  • Research summary

ChroniSense Medical, Ltd. is developing a wearable medical monitoring system, Polso™. Polso™ provides a number of the parameters employed in various Early Warning Scores (EWS), such as the National Early Warning Score (NEWS), utilised widely in UK hospitals. \nThe EWS is a physiological track and trigger system that is generated from multi- parameter or aggregate of vital signs measurements for early recognition of clinical deterioration in acutely admitted patients.\nThe parameters of the EWS include pulse rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturations, respiratory, body temperature and level of consciousness, all conventionally measured individually. The Polso™ provides these vital signs simply by placing the device on the wrist. Polso™, as a wrist-based device, enables a great degree of flexibility in patient care and management.\nThe goal of this study is to evaluate the suitability of Polso™ as a data acquisition and processing platform capable of providing EWS summaries, against the currently employed NEWS system utilised a major UK medical centre.\nWe plan to recruit patients who have been admitted to and are being monitored on the Cardiac Care Unit at Milton Keynes University Hospital. Polso™ measurements will be taken in addition standard NEWS parameters by conventional method. \nThe results will inform improvement in derivative diagnostic algorithm to enhance accuracy of reading, as well as validating the use device in acute clinical setting. \n
