Research summary
Peripheral neuropathy is a term used to describe damage to nerves that are outside the brain and spinal cord (peripheral nerves).Peripheral neuropathy is not one specific disease. Many different conditions that can damage the peripheral nerves can cause it; in cancer treatment this mainly involves neuropathy caused by anti-cancer drugs (chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy). A study to determine the incidence, severity and natural history of Chemotherapy Induced Peripheral Neuropathy (CIPN) with different neurotoxic chemotherapy drugs is vital in order to quantify the extent of the problem and inform future design of interventional studies. Alongside this secondary outcomes of this study will explore the impact chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy has on quality of life (QOL) and emotional distress.
This study forms part of a larger international study coordinated by Hong Kong Polytechnic University where all the anonymous data will be submitted for analysis.REC name
