Research summary
This thesis project will explore anonymised data from patients presenting to Ear Nose and Throat departments in the UK with chronic symptoms of throat clearing, cough, hoarse voice, feeling of a lump in throat and heartburn. The chief investigator, and student, has been a member of the trial team that has collected this data as part of an NIHR funded randomized trial. Patients have consented for this trial and for their data to be analysed. Patients have completed 3 questionnaires and had a photograph taken of their throat. This thesis project aims to explore the initial presenting symptoms and throat signs, in more detail than the original trial protocol described. This work will further our understanding on symptom reporting in this common clinical scenario.
