Research summary
This application is from a programme of research funded by the National Institute for Health Research. A previous phase of the programme was conducted in community pharmacies (REC No: 17/YH/0406; 19/SW/0082), but changes to the NHS mean that medicine review services are now mainly delivered by clinical pharmacists in general practices. Working with pharmacists and patients, the researchers have developed a new way of discussing alcohol consumption in structured medication reviews (SMRs). The aim of this study is to examine the delivery of the Medicines and Alcohol Consultation (MAC) intervention from the perspectives of participating clinical pharmacists and patients receiving SMRs. This work will take 8 months to complete and be undertaken in Yorkshire and the North East.
