Data collection arrangements
We wish to renew and extend our biobank at CCC to collect and store high quality
biological samples for patient benefit from the living. This is to provide a research resource into cancer. The samples
will be linked to patient data. We would also like to collect samples from healthy volunteers to provide age-matched
control samples. We wish to collect and store the following samples:
1. Anticoagulated blood for the preparation and storage of plasma, buffy coat and cellular material
2. Coagulated blood for the preparation and storage of serum
3. Urine
4. Saliva
5. Ascites fluid
6. Faecal material
7. Archival tissue samples surplus to diagnostic requirements
8. Fresh frozen tissue for research following biopsy
We would anticipate collecting samples from between 250-350 patients per year. The samples will be anonymised
using numeric, barcoded labels. The samples would be available to researchers upon application and following
review. A Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) will be used to map a full audit trail for the samples.
The medically qualified clinician or Biobank Administrator
request consent for the samples and clinical data to be used for research. The aims of the biobank were be explained
to the participant and they were be given an information sheet and time to consider whether to consent and gift the
samples to the Biobank, they were also be given time to ask questions and talk through any potential issues. If after
consideration, the person wishes to participate, the trained and delega ted person will then receive informed consent
for the samples to be taken. It will be made clear that all information will be protected and the samples anonymised.Research programme
