  • Research summary

    1. Aims and objectives of your project

To understand and map the use of community assets by children and young people in the Northwest specifically Wigan, Knowsley and St Helens to support mental health and wellbeing.

Gain insight into the facilitators, barriers, and outcomes which children, young people, and families perceive as important.

Understand who is accessing community assets and which populations are not.

    Better understand gaps in provision.

    2. Brief description of your project

This project will use surveys to gain insight into what children and young people are using in the community to support their mental health and wellbeing. Young people aged 12-24-years and parents/guardians of children aged 8-11-years and 12-16 will be asked to complete the survey using the JISC online surveys platform. The results of this survey will inform the next steps of the research by providing insight into which community assets are used by whom, barriers and facilitators, important resources these provide, who are not being reached, and gaps in provision. This will be a starting point for identifying and mapping assets and refining the protocol for the larger research project.

    3. What are the principal research questions?

What community assets are children and young people accessing to support their mental health and wellbeing?

What facilitates access to community assets, and what barriers exist?

What gaps exist in terms of assets themselves?
