Research summary
The study aims to collect information about dental decay levels among five-year-old children to provide comparative data for each local authority. The national study will used standardised methods and will be run in a random samples of schools with children whose parents will be asked to provide consent. Brief clinical examinations will be carried out by trained and calibrated dental clinicians with support teams. The results will be compared between and within various geographies and with similar studies in the past. The information is used to help NHS and LA commissioners to provide the service and programmes that local populations need.
