Research summary
This study aims aims to understand the experiences of carers of stroke survivors who have accessed the stepped care model of psychological support provided by the Salford Stroke clinical psychology service. The study aims to understand what specific support has been provided by the stepped care model that has helped with their adjustment and what further psychological support may be helpful.
The research is relevant because previous research has identified that wellbeing is important both for the carer themselves and for the wellbeing of the stroke survivor and the stepped care model is a relatively new framework which aims to improve carers’ experience. The study will help to identify the positives of the service as well as areas that may need to be improved. This research will add to the literature on carers’ experiences of post stroke support particularly in Salford, but may help to inform community services in other locations.
Participants will be carers of stroke survivors who have accessed step three of the stepped care model and who have had at least three sessions with a clinical psychologist. The study aims to recruit up to 10 participants.
This study will be qualitative and semi-structured interviews will be conducted to obtain information about participants’ experiences of the stepped care model.
Data will be analysed using thematic analysis.REC name
