Research summary
Trace amines are naturally occurring substances in the body as well as being found in the diet and they are in medicinal products. They increase blood pressure by causing vasoconstriction. This study will examine whether they exert these effects through specific trace amine receptors in human blood vessels. Human isolated blood vessels, including saphenous vein and mammary artery, arising from surgical surplus will be set up for measurement of vasoconstriction to trace amines. The mechanisms of the vasoconstriction will be examined including whether trace amine receptors are involved.
