Data collection arrangements
We wish to set up a database of clinical imaging scans and related clinical information of patients with known or suspected cardiovascular health problems. The registry of study participants (or database) will be held by NHS eHealth and managed under the direction of the Head of eHealth. The recording of patients who have provided consent will be done by the administrative and audit staff associated with the Heart and Lung Centre and eHealth. These people would normally have access to patients’ identifiable data as part of their routine work. Data entry onto the electronic file will be by admin staff. The database will be located on an NHS password secured server. The database will contain the name, gender, CHI number, the date the patient gave consent, and the responses to the 5 questions on the consent form.
Research programme
There are several thousand imaging scans performed each year in our hospital in patients with known or suspected cardiovascular disease. Potentially, research with these data could contribute to public health in our community locally and further afield. There is extensive evidence internationally of how single centre registries and databases have enabled research to be done which in turn has resulted in publications and improvements in our understanding of cardiovascular disease.
