  • Data collection arrangements

Data will be collected by patients completing validated pain and quality of life questionnaires on a tablet computer whilst they wait for their consultation. In addition, anonymous data relating to individual patient demographics, their pain treatment to date (medication, interventions) and oncological history and treatment will be automatically populated from the Royal Marsden's electronic patient record (EPR).

  • Research programme

The database will support the cancer pain research community. The majority of our research will be observational and retrospective in nature and will predominantly fall into three main themes; 1 - epidemiological i.e what proportion of patients with breast cancer have painful chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy? 2 – clinical outcomes i.e what proportion of cancer pain patients are receiving step 3 (strong) opioids? 3 – phenotyping i.e what proportion of patients with head and neck cancer related pain have neuropathic features to their pain?
