Research summary
BACKGROUND: Care of bone health of cancer patients is variable across the NHS due to a lack of evidence to support best practice.
AIM: To add to understanding of bone health in patients with cancer. To optimize bone health and prevent extension of bone disease in patients with cancer through improved risk factor assessment, lifestyle modification and appropriate treatment for high risk patients
Study design: Prospective cohort
Study participants: All patients with a diagnosis of cancer
Exclusion: Unable to consent
Recruitment: Patients will be recruited from oncology/ cancer clinics
Assessments: In addition to the NHS clinical assessments, participants will be requested to complete addition questionnaires, buccal rinse blood and urine samples and depending on their type of cancer bone density scans and/or bone marrow tests. These will be repeated annually.
